One hundred and eighty flats. The Housing Bureau confirmed Tuesday it would offer 180 transitional housing units to tenants displaced from subdivided flats under the current clearance schedule, drawing from Transitional Housing Programme stock in Yau Ma Tei and Sham Shui Po. The programme caps monthly rent at around HK$2,100 for a one-bedroom. The same unit in private subdivided stock in those districts runs HK$4,800 to HK$6,200, depending on floor and landlord.

Households that qualify for the transitional offer -- the income ceiling sits at HK$17,000 for a single-person household -- have a destination. The rest find their way into private subdivided stock in Kwun Tong and Tsuen Wan, where landlords already know what a cleared tenant can pay. One hundred and eighty flats. The clearance notices give affected households sixty days.
